The construction of the new terminal building and apron (aircraft parking area) of the airport, which is the 2nd largest in the Central Anatolia Region after Esenboğa Airport, the 11th in the number of passengers throughout Turkey and the 7th in international passenger traffic, was started by a private company that signed the project contract on November 12, 2020.

Drawing attention to the fact that the annual number of 2.5 million passengers will increase to 8 million with the increase in the number of aircraft parking positions and flights with the project, the company continued its promises as follows:
"With the new terminal, the terminal building with an indoor area of 51 thousand square meters from 20 thousand square meters and a total indoor facility of 90 thousand square meters will be put into service. we have been working for 3 years, and we have now reached the stage of surrender due to the unpredictable Ukraine-Russia war and the earthquakes we have experienced. Our terminal will be opened for service as soon as possible. Our number of aircraft will also increase from 9 parking positions to 18 parking positions. Thanks to the 6 passenger bridge in the new terminal building, passengers will be able to reach the new domestic and international terminal building without interruption. At the same time, it will also benefit from a multi-storey parking lot."
The company official added that the old terminal building will continue to serve as a replacement international terminal, especially for Hajj and Umrah flights.
